Safe Communities Are Strong Communities
Every West Virginian deserves to feel safe in their home, in their neighborhood, and in their community. Public safety is not a partisan issue — it is a fundamental responsibility of government. I believe in supporting our law enforcement officers with the training, resources, and compensation they need to do their jobs effectively and with integrity.
At the same time, I believe in building the kind of communities where crime has less room to take root. That means investing in youth programs, after-school opportunities, and community centers that give young people somewhere to go and something to work toward. Prevention is just as important as enforcement.
Strengthening Law Enforcement Partnerships
Effective public safety requires trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. I will work to build that trust by promoting transparency, supporting community policing initiatives, and ensuring that officers have the mental health resources they need to handle the immense pressures of the job.
West Virginia's law enforcement officers are some of the finest in the country. They deserve competitive pay, modern equipment, and the backing of their leaders. I will be that leader for them every single day.
Addressing Root Causes
We cannot arrest our way out of every social problem. The opioid epidemic, poverty, and lack of opportunity are all contributors to crime in our communities. My public safety vision addresses these root causes directly — through treatment instead of incarceration for nonviolent drug offenders, job creation in high-crime areas, and wraparound services for families in crisis.
